2 - The Hill of friendship, Diana
hill takes its name from friends of the historian
Leopold Stohr, who adored the walks leading to this
place. Today the Diana Tower is situated here, as well
as a cafe bearing the same name. One can reach the place
by funicular railway, which was built back in 1912 -
during the period when the number of visitors to the spa
resort was at its peak. Starting from its base station
at the end of Mariánská Street behind the Grand Hotel
Pupp, it transports tourists right to the very summit.
There is an observation platform just about thirty
metres from the Diana Tower's base. It offers a
wonderful view over Karlovy Vary and its surroundings.
Having reached the peak by funicular railway, most
visitors return to the town by foot, keeping close to
the funicular's route. One can, however, go back down
via the longer route, which takes you via the Path of
Friendship, and lets you enjoy the lovely canopy of
Karlovy Vary forests. The path emerges at the restaurant
St Linhart, from where you can return to the town via
the Sova's path.
