The Municipal Theatre of Karlovy Vary was opened on May 15, 1886, inaugurated by Mozart’s opera “The Marriage of Figaro”. The theatre’s building is in Historical style with Rococo elements built within 20 months according to the project of famous Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer. The main decoration of the building is a group of sculptures on the facade and mouldings. The interiors are a harmony of sculptures and paintings, as well as frescoes. The vault was painted by the outstanding Viennese artists Gustav and Ernst Klimt. The theatre curtain of unique design displays the allegory of the theatrical art, with nine Muses representing nine kinds of the arts. The charm and the elegance of the interior fully correspond to the uplifting mood of the spa resort. Every month sees a rich array of operas, operettas, symphonic concerts and ballets.
