The gallery was founded in 1953 in the spa area of
Karlovy Vary. The exposition shows Czech art of the 20th
century. The gallery has amassed a rich collection of
valuable paintings and sculptures, including those in
the most popular styles of the first half of the century
Đ Expressionism, Fauvism, Cubism. Works of Jacob
Schikander, Jan Preisler and Antonín Slavíček, Josef
Čapek, Emil Filla, Bohumil Kubišta and others can be
found there. The Surrealist trend that emerged by the
end of 1930s is represented by the works of Jindřich Štýrský
and František Janoušek. The collection also comprises
the paintings of Josef Istler and Václav Boštík, who
worked in the 1960s using unique expressive techniques.
